[Qgis-user] landuse raster

Hello all,
I wish to extract landuse from landsat images. Can somebody outline the steps and how can it be done. So far I have created a composite and then I am vectorising them manually. Is there a better way of extracting settlement areas and other agricultural landuse. A help would be highly appreciated.
