[Qgis-user] Composer raster output

Hi John,

The raster output saves the whole layout (with page-oriented coordinates)
and with a given mapscale to a raster file instead of printing or saving
it to a PDF. Since it is a layout with many elements around the map, and
with a defined mapscale, it doesn't make much sense to write the
raster-image with a world file.

I see what you expect though - you want a rasterized version of the map
symbolization (e.g. geotiff) saved as a raster, but I think what you want
should better be done outside the print composer, maybe with a python
plugin - as you usually don't want all the map layout stuff in the raster
result (.e.g. scalebar, legend, title, etc.).

What you want can be done with "File" --> "Save as Image" which allows to
create a png of the current view and also creates a world file. The
drawback, however, is that you can't set a map extent and a resolution -
so you can't easily get a larger map extent at a higher resolution. It
would be great if the "File" --> "Save as Image" could be enhanced with a
resolution and map extent parameter.

I think this would be the better solution than expecting world file output
from the print composer.

Andreas
