[Qgis-user] Zoom map to select rows, but not so much

I find the zooming in "Attribute Table/Zoom map to selected row 
(Ctrl-J)" exaggerated for the case of points, actually get
into cm, which, btw, makes qgis to work very slowly.
Is it possible to control this zoom somehow? It would nice
setting zoom to x2, x4 etc in the panel itself or in
the Options dialog. Perhaps there is a way of controlling this already
there and I could not find it.
