[Qgis-user] Support for Catalog.dbf files

I have a directory that contains 518 GeoJP2 files. With ESRI ArcGIS,
these .jp2 files are accessed through a Catalog.dbf text file, that
is essentially a simple spread sheet that contains the minimum and
maximum X,Y coordinates of the images, and look like this (note the
use of relative addressing to specify the path to the .jp2 files)
IMAGE XMINN YMINN XMAXN YMAXN
../../GeoJPEG2000/18sth/18sth820915.jp2 282000.00 4291500.00
283500.00 4293000.00
../../GeoJPEG2000/18sth/18sth820930.jp2 282000.00 4293000.00
283500.00 4294500.00

Does Qgis or GDAL support the Catalog.dbf concept?
If yes, does Qgis or GDAL
1. import and read in ArcGIS Catalog.dbf files? or
2. offer a scheme to create something similar to the ArcGIS
Catalog.dbf file, that is supported by Qgis?
