Hi.

QGIS should be able to plot any grids readable by GDAL. BIL files are readable by QGIS.

I have downloaded a file from WorldClim & unzipped it:

gdalinfo for one of these gives:

gdalinfo tmean_1.bil
Driver: EHdr/ESRI .hdr Labelled
Files: tmean_1.bil
       tmean_1.hdr
Size is 43200, 18000
Coordinate System is `'
Origin = (-180.000000000000000,90.000000000000000)
Pixel Size = (0.008333333333333,-0.008333333333333)
Corner Coordinates:
Upper Left (-180.0000000, 90.0000000)
Lower Left (-180.0000000, -60.0000000)
Upper Right ( 180.0000000, 90.0000000)
Lower Right ( 180.0000000, -60.0000000)
Center ( 0.0000000, 15.0000000)
Band 1 Block=43200x1 Type=UInt16, ColorInterp=Undefined
  NoData Value=-9999

I am able to plot this in QGIS, as the raster type, choose whichever file type is (*), this can vary between QGIS versions, but should always be there. I clicked on one of bil files & it showed obvious land/sea areas, but I'm not familiar with the data & did not try to create a color map for it.

HTH,

  Brent Wood
