I'm not a mac use mayself but seems to me you'll need to install the 1.6
version of qgis (that uses gdal 1.7) and then install the mrsid plugin
for gdal 1.7

you can find  the dev builds of qgis (aka qgis 1.6) at the bottom of
this page
