Google has a very nice SDK with a couple of examples on how to handle
GPS events using a native App - and you can also use HTML5 based dev
tools like PhoneGap (OSF tool): http://phonegap.com/about/features

We developed an app for first responders and it works quite well (using
the Google SDK http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

Good luck - j'
