This is my first testing round:

1. Works fine for tif, jpg files
2. Problems with envi files. If you select "All supported files":
2.1 *.hdr files are listed. If you do not list but *.shp for shape files,
it's probably better not to list but the main file for envi files (thus not
the *.hdr)
2.2. *.img are listed
2.3 But often envi files are named *.bil or *.bsq for the user to stress the
way multibands are written to disk. *.bil files are not listed, I htink they
should.
2.4. The problem with envi files is that the user is free to put any
extension, as far as there exist another
*.hdr file with the same prefix. It's even common not to put any extension
and just have the pair
imapepita
imapepita.hdr

but many people use imapepita.bil, imapepita.bin, imapepita.bsq,
imapepita.img...
so we have a problem here. Maybe this should be the only case in which the
ancillary file (the *.hdr)
should be listed? This is the only general naming convention for envi files.

3. Problems with envi files. If you select "All supported raster files":
Only *.hdr files are listed, but then QGIS complains that file is not an
image.
Perhaps a good listing and QGIS should be modified to actually look for the
right file? Not easy, because of the problem with the undefined extension.

4. *.adf, *.sid and *.ECW files are not listed (while can be displayed by
QGIS) even with "All supported files" selected

5. Could files and folders be listed alphabetically?
