Is it the contour plugin you are talking about? I installed that a few
weeks ago and had the issue that my mapplotlib was not new enough (on
natty it is 0.99 ...)

You need version 1.0
(http://matplotlib.sourceforge.net/users/installing.html) and have to
install it yourself, the plugin is not trying to install it for you.
