[Qgis-user] pb when importing raster

hi, new to QGIS on Mac OS X.6 with QGIS 1.7 (same on 1.6)

everything seems ok for vector data
but loading raster data gives the message

"/Users/admin/Documents/GIS/Raster_Orthophoto/0435_6283.ecw n'est pas une source de données raster gérées" (in french)
some thing like "0435_6283.ecw is not a correct data source"

The only available files in my raster base have extensions
.ecw, .gxt, .tab, .tfw, .txt, .xml
and the answer is the same for all of them

The bases I have are ok on Windows with QGIS 1.6
what am I missing ?
