[Qgis-user] How to open ESRI geodatabase in QGIS 1.8 and Gdal 1.9 on Ubuntu?

How do I open ESRIs geodatabase .gdb-files in QGIS 1.8 and Gdal 1.9? I have
found on internet that the package OSGeo4W are needed, but this is only för
ms-windows, i suppose, but I run Ubuntu 12.04LTS. As I understand it, is
should also only bee possible for ArcGIS 10, not older versions of ArcGIS.
By the way, .gdb appears in Ubuntu as a folder with lot of files inside.
