[Qgis-user] Save selection as takes a LONG time

QGIS is taking a very long time to save selections from layers to a shapefile.  ie: 1000 lines from a large database (~4.8M lines) took 13 minutes to save.  gdal_translate (outside QGIS) with a spatial select and/or attribute select on this DB takes seconds.

QGIS view is same projection as data, and I'm keeping the CRS when saving.

Data is in PostGIS, over 1Gbit connection - there is a lot of download activity during the whole process.

Data is spatially and primary key indexed.

Why is QGIS so slow?
