[Qgis-user] Python console doesnt open in Qgis 2.0

Hi all,
I've just upgraded to 2.0.1 from 1.8 through ubuntu sources.
However, the python console doesnt open when I click the Plugins->Python
Console menu item.
Has anyone encountered a similar issue ? Am running xubuntu 12.04, no error
is logged in the terminal.
