[Qgis-user] item ID/UUID feature in print composer

Yes the UUID is used internally. Actually, it's not even used by QGIS
itself, but by plugins.
And idea would be to remove this from the user interface, since it's
read-only and useless for the user...

I'll file a ticket for that !
