[Qgis-user] Unexpected ordering of records/features in shape file

When creating a new shapefile by manually entering points one by one I
expected the attribute table to display the features in the order I had
entered them - but that is not the case.

As it is alway a good idea to save your work often, I saved the shape file
after every fifth added feature and the attribute table looks like this:

In some cases the order of the features is important and luckily enough the
MMQgus plugin is able to sort a shapefile by an attribute value but I didn't
expect this behaviour?
