changing numerical fields to string fields will work ok but what about 
the other way round? There may be strings that cannot be represented as 
numbers. IMHO using the calculator is the preferred method in these 
cases (though you create a new field)

Hmm, this looks more like a question of the csv importer than the 
tableManager
