[Qgis-user] ArcGIS Layer File

Thanks Carol!

I've downloaded a set of symbols that I can use (SVG images) and I'm sure that with some help from the list I can get them installed correctly (SVG path question).

SO, once I get there.  Then, how do I make the text referent "oil well" (as an example) as listed in the Attribute Table connect to the appropriate SVG file to bring that symbol in?

Can I put a path in an attribute table?

Ross,

You will need to create custom symbols either by using the QGIS symbols or by going through some steps to create custom symbols using ArcGIS symbology to bring it into QGIS. I wrote a blog post on this not too long ago that may help you decide what you would prefer to do in your case.

Hope it helps!

the convention for oil and gas symbols goes beyond dots.

it proprietary?  Is there a way the
person who created that ArcGIS layer file save it as something QGIS  could open?
