[Qgis-user] Processing: how to use input parameter in "Select by expression"

Along the lines - I am generally unsure how I can connect input 
parameters in algorithms. Sometimes they magically appear in the 
algorithm to be chosen. Sometimes they don't. Is there a general way to 
connect input parameters to be used as variables for algorithm parameters?
