hi Chandler,
just download the 2.8.2 QGIS-Version and start the exe-file.
If 2.8.1 is installed on your machine, you will see following infowindow:
<http://osgeo-org.1560.x6.nabble.com/file/n5205951/screenshot_install_2_8_2.jpg> 

...so if you click OK, the old 2.8.1 version will be uninstalled, before
2.8.2 will be installed.
this works for me on my laptop with windows 7.
