You should be able to open the kml file, then use the Table Manager
plugin to add any additional attribute columns, and finally click
"Save As..." to save the layer as a shapefile, and it will preserve
then additional columns. Now load the new shapefile, start editing
in the Attributes window, and enter whatever new data you need...<br>
Hope I understood what you want to do.<br>
