If you want the segment size to equal 100m in the related map, you
could set segment size to 100.<br>
The setting 'map units per bar unit' is if you want to label the
scale bar with a different unit (e.g. set it to 1000 if you have a
meter map and want to label the bar in km).<br>

the first bit of confusion is about the segment size(map
units) as I would expect that to be meters, so Segment size

being able to shed light on these scaling issues.</p>
