Does each of the shapefiles have a *.prj ? Maybe the
monuments are in some different CRS? Try to right-click on
the monuments and choose "Zoom to Layer".<br>

Both of the files that are not showing have .pri files, the
two that do not do not have them. I also checked the fields,
the working files have fields while the non working ones do
not. They also do not show when I click on 'Zoom to layer'.<br>

So you have 4 sets of shapefiles on two different computers.
All 4 display as expected on one computer, but when they are
copied over to a different machine, one of the 4 does not
display? And all the components of all 4 shapefiles are
identical on both machines?<br>
One machine is ubuntu, the other fedora 16, and both are
running QGIS 1.7.4. If that sums it up, then indeed there
are some gremlins at work here...
