Hi,<br>
using Qgis on openSuse 12.2 and gnome 3, it crashes
anytime it tries to open any file dialog
(open/save). It seems to be version independent 1.8
as well as 1.9 alpha. I seem to recall there was
similar problem about a year ago, but I can't quite
remember or find the solution. Needles to say that
it is rather annoying. perhaps somoene can help me ?<br>

I had a similar issue some time ago after I have
compiled QGIS with FileGDB support,<br>
it is due to different libxml version between
FileGDB and the one on my machine.<br>
Have you compiled FileGDB support ?<br>

How do you install QGIS ? self-compiled ?<br>

Sure, but QGIS is compiled against GDAL so it might be a
problem, at the least for me it was !<br>

I have tested two versions of Qgis - one is self compiled from the
current git master, another is official rpm packege 1.8.0 from
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Application:/Geo/">http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Application:/Geo/</a> . Both
behave the same way under Gnome3. Libtool and its libraries seem to
be fine, distribution clean. Perhaps libltdl is trying to open some
nonexisting librarary ?<br>
