    Problem 1)<br>
    I'd suggest you copy the layer and use a subset filter (in the layer
    properties 'general' tab) to filter out the data you do not need.
    Then label that layer.<br>

    Problem 2)<br>
    Importing excel should be possible in 1.8 but I never tried.<br>
