So I just had some fun trying to get this to work - I thought I
would share...and I have no clue if this should go to the GDAL list
or what....but...<br>
<br>
Warning - I stink at scripting complicated things. I do enjoy stupid
vi tricks. <br>
<br>
1. Installed libgdal_mrsid_src-1.9.0-2_oneiric on trusty. <br>
2. I had a copy of the MrSid 8.5 DSDK - so I ran with that. <br>
3. Tried - sudo gdal-build-mrsid
$HOME/MrSID_DSDK-8.5.0.3422-linux.x86-64.gcc44 - didn't work. I
think because I ultimately installed the wrong deb. BUT - I'm not
enjoying launchpad like I should. <br>
4. Downloaded the libgdal-mrsid_1.9.0-2~oneiric1.tar.gz file and
decided to start working with that....<br>
5. Uncompressed that file and edited the gdal-mrsid-build.ln file <br>
<ul>
<li> it wants to create a directory /usr/lib/gdalplugins/1.9 .
Changed that to /usr/lib/gdalplugins/1.11 <br>
</li>
<li>Changed all references to lt_base.h to include the path
Raster_DSDK - Example: </li>

<li>Changed all references in the files contained in
libgdal-mrsid-1.9.0.tar.gz (since that gets copied to /usr/src </li>
<li>Scripts look for jpeg2000 support in the Lizardtech downloads
- removed all references to libltikdu.a because it doesn't seem
to be in the SDK. <br>
</li>
<li>errored out looking for: libgeotiff is required to build GDAL
MrSID driver</li>
</ul>
<p>I haven't given up yet - but decided to take a break and keep
making notes. There is a brand new Sid SDK out - version 9 but I
didn't want to try that one..... yet. <br>

Is there a way to port this to Linux as we are now the odd man
out......and Sid files drive me an extra 6 minutes and about 6.5 GB of
difficulty every time I run into one.

Seems to me at one point I saw some directions for getting 1.4 to read
MrSID, but I can’t find them. I’m doing GIS volunteer work for Mass
Audubon Society, and a lot of their raster stuff is MrSID. (They use
ArcGIS; I can’t afford it.) --
