Yes - I will start working on a requirements document soon. I will post<br>
it on Google Docs so different people/organizations can contribute. In<br>
the case of DXF/DWG, J?rgen Fischer of company Norbit will be able to<br>
work on it. He also partially did the DXF export and knows the DXF<br>
format quite well. For the import we will probably use a library called<br>
Teigha - the same library also used by ESRI, Bricscad, Intergraph and<br>
many others. We will have to join the OpenDesignAlliance to get access<br>
to this library and pay a yearly membership fee - we still have to<br>
investigate which level of membership we need as an open source project.<br>
It is clear that the DWG import is harder than the DXF export, but the<br>
Teigha library will help a lot.<br>

yes - absolutely - it has been done before. Maybe 2/3 of the recent new<br>
features were introduced because of paid development, and there has been<br>
some co-financed and/or crowd-funded development efforts. As an example,<br>
the DXF export was funded by 3 Swiss communities, the database relations<br>
and nested forms had been paid by some Swiss organizations. Many other,<br>
mostly middle-european local governments (e.g. Tuscany, french ministry<br>
of environment, Agence de l'eau Garonne, Province of Vorarlberg<br>
(Austria) ...) have contributed and funded as well.<br>

Recently, there have been two successful crowd-funding initiatives:<br>

* QGIS GRASS Plugin Upgrade Crowdfunding:<br>

and a new reporting framework.<br>

But seriously, I've shown people who've only used Arc QGIS and they love<br>
it! They find the interface easier to understand and use, and some of<br>
them also really latch onto the idea of it being F/OSS (beer AND<br>
speech)! I only hope that at some point I have enough that I can give<br>
back. QGIS is amazing and may be in the process of changing the flow of<br>
my life (more on that in a few months if this works ::fingers crossed::).<br>

Not to argue, since I'm not the one doing the work (and it's a feature<br>
that could help me out a bit!), but how does this mesh with GPLv2 and<br>
the goal of being a F/OSS platform?<br>

What's the process for going about this? Let's say I want to start a<br>
crowd funding campaign or fund a specific project. Would I contact the<br>
PSC and hash out the feasibility and funding requirements?<br>

I have a shapefile that shows up in a project. But whne I open it into<br>
another project it doesn't show up. In another instance I had a shapefile<br>
that I opened an it showed up, but was so extremely larger then what it<br>
should have been. I know this is a CRS issue, but not sure how to correct.<br>
Suggestions?<br>

Hi,<br>
In your QGIS option, make sure CRS on the fly is activated. Also make sure that the "what to do if file has no CRS" is set to "ask" so that QGIS does not assume the projection is the project projection or a default CRS.<br>
Once the file is open, if the file has no CRS (prj file,), QGIS will ask for a projection. At this point, you will need to add one. If you are not sure, you can try something logical like a local CRS. (Informed guess). Zoom to layer extent and see if you are in the right spot. If not, you can right click on the layer and change the CRS and then zoom to extent again. Look at the x and y. Are you in meters or long\lat??? That will help guessing. If you find the right CRS, you can save the file with the new or corrected prj file in the "save as".<br>

I have developed my own model, which processes input vector layer. The<br>
final output is vector layer that contains many attribute fields, and of<br>
course, also the geometry, but I need a simpler output - geometry and most<br>
of those fields are unnecessary. With this model, how can I get a simple<br>
table output with selected attribute fields of the output layer?<br>
