I, too, was having problems with the qgis print composer mangling maps that had an Open Layers component. I installed the QuickMapServices plugin, as you suggested, and re-rendered my layers accordingly. My problems immediately went away. Thank you!</div><div><br></div><div>Moreover, as a bonus, the QuickMapServices OpenStreetMap layer now has properties I can tweak, which Open Layers still lacks. (In this case, I needed to dial up transparency, which I still cannot do from within qgis.)
