<p>You can limit the nr of CPU cores it uses for rendering:</p>

<p>Settings --> Options --> Rendering --> Render layers in parallel / Max cores</p>

<p>I don't think you can limit memory consumption with QGIS settings.</p>

<div dir="ltr">I know that sounds like something you wouldn't want to do but we have a number of users sharing a VM and if the first QGis started manages to grab all (or even most) of the available memory it prevents the other users from being able to start QGis let alone use it.
