<p>Not so sure about textures - so they display, but upside down? Perhaps it is an issue with vertex ordering (clockwise vs. anti-clockwise). I had building models (3D Multipolygons) where the models were rendered inside out. According to Martin Dobias, this is an issue with vertex ordering, and I do hope that when QGIS 3 is shipped, that there will be an option to set the vertex ordering with a checkbox or radiobutton.</p>

<p>As to the 3D raster DEM: this definitely works. In the 3D view you have to press the "Configure" button in the top-left of the 3D window - the button with the screw-wrench. In the dialog that opened you can choose the raster layer with the DEM.</p>

<p>Depending on the size of the DEM, the triangulation of the raster DEM may take a few seconds.</p>

<div dir="ltr">COLLADA works brilliantly, I would like to try JSON as well. Mine didn't have any texture to it, the model came in black don't know if textures are not supported yet or if the model doesn't have one, will look into it further. I have not tested this in the QGIS 3 beta yet but will soon.

<div>DXF's of building models crash both QGIS systems. They came from Sketchup but I used AutoCAD to simplify them a bit as well with no luck. </div>

<div>Have not gotten into the 3D polygon method yet either but will certainly try further when time permits.</div>

<div>Is anyone out there doing anything with building models in QGIS? I have some sketchup buildings in DXF format I have been playing with in AutoCAD and QGIS. Trying to find a way to bring them into QGIS for viewing in the qgs2threejs plugin, but when I do I get a crash dump. </div>
