Hi guys
My two cents on this one..(and on a slightly off track)
I have recently as an experiment decided to use the
instructions in the QGIS INSTALL.md to do a debian package
compile for Ubuntu 16.04 using the ubuntugis experimental
ppa (before Angelos migrated the packages to Unstable).
What a fun experience.... Learnt a lot.... (I used the
Boundless QGIS fork of 2.18.14 to see if i can get the
"install plugin from zip" working on Ubuntu. I actually got
it working and installed via local apt repository.

I would be more than willing to help out on this one, but need
some guidance in certain areas, and I can only do this over
weekends. One question as a kick-off, If I want 2.18, do I
just use stand git clone and then git checkout of 2.18 to get
the latest version of 2.18? (In my experiment I just
downloaded the 2.18 zip.
