Hi Phil,
We where proposing to do that, but it would only really be a
temporary solution or Fix.

Hi Nicolas,
I haven't checked this in other formats, I will look into this when
I get a chance, but even if its not an problem in other formats, its
still an issue. I will also log the Bug.
It has been an issue for quite a while and it still persists in QGIS
3 and it would be nice as part of QGIS core if it could finally be
remedied.
The crazy thing is, the TAB file opens in QGIS perfectly, no issues!
it only becomes an issue when you try to save the file as a
shapefile.
My main concern here is that, we have been pushing QGIS as the
GIS solution in the office, phasing out MapInfo. A lot of the people
we are trying to win over are users of MapInfo, so we have a lot of
data in both TAB and SHP formats, we are trying to get these people
to use SHP, and the tool we want them to use, cant reliably convert
from TAB to SHP, without a work around.

Afternoon all,
I have a slight issue, there are a number of MapInfo Tab Files
which we want to convert to Shapefile, but they do not convert
correctly.
The issue arises with Rings/Holes in the Polygons, when you
save the TAB file as a shapefile, some of them are not
displaying correct, they overlay the hole as another polygon.
The issue seems to be related to the direction the hole was
digitised/generated to. The issue can also be replicated
outside of QGIS by running ogr2ogr, so it seems to be a
GDAL/OGR ESRI Shapefile Driver issue.
Now in saying all that, QGIS 3 seems to be able to fix the
issue by running, Fix geometries
from the Processing Toolbox.
My question is, Is there a way to fix the OGR Driver to fix
the issue, or a tick box under
Save Vector Layer as... to run/implament the Fix
geometries
tool as part of the save process?
This is an issue, which pops up regularly online, with no
solution to date.
Regards & Thanks in advance.
