Hi Rutger,

It would be useful to know the source for the digitised contours and the
procedure you used to create the shapefile.

You may have three options:
1. Go back to Adobe Illustrator and digitise some well defined known
reference points such as grid intersections or road junctions, with this
it should be possible in QGIS to move, scale and rotate the vector
contours to fit OpenStreetMap or OS Opendata online imagery of Mull and
Iona.
2. Request someone with the QGIS plug-ins qgisAffine or VectorBender
working to do the transformation for you.
3. Request someone with ArcGIS Spatial Adjustment to do the
transformation for you.

Hi,
If you are on Windows, you could always use the OSGEO4W installer and install both the 2.8 and 3x versions of QGIS. This way, you could use the plugins for the 2.8 QGIS and that could solve the problem.
can you describe better the use case? I suppose you can't share project and
db connection, so you need to give us steps to replicate the issue starting
from a clean qgis profile.

remember that side effects can be introduced by plugins that are not using
correctly the qgis authentication infrastructure (if you use it). How do
you use the authentication? saving pwd int he project or in the qgis auth
infrastructure that need use of a master password?
I've reintroduced the map calculator in the new processing
infrastructure... I created tests and I extensively tested with the help of
other users, but always is possible to hit a bug! Because I'm busy with
QGIS UserConf organization, I would kindly ask if it's possible to trace
your issue filing a bug and assigning to me please.

in the meantime you can override or adapt the user manual trying with the
shining new (renintroduced) raster calculator via grass available in
master... btw this latter does not use GPU acceleration as recently
introduced only for core algorithms.

thank you to update the training material

Dear all,
When I put ring buffers arond dot objects, the diameter doesn't come out as I would expect.

For instance, when I try to make ring buffer with a distance of 100 meter and 25 segments around a dot object. The diameter of the buffer turns out to be approx 126 m when I measure it with the ruler tool.

What am I doing wrong?

I work with OSM Standard map in EPSG:3857 - WGS 84 / Pseudo-Mercator - projection and so are my shape files.

Best regards,
Hi Herbert,

You are using a Mercator based projection to calculate distances [1]. It
was not designed for distance calculations.

Can you reproject to your own national/local projected coordinate
system? Compute the buffers using it and compare the results.

Regards,
