<p>EPSG:3857 is not using degrees. It is a meter based coordinate system with very high distortions, esp. towards the poles. That's why it is only useable up to 85 degrees north and south. The max projected bounds are:</p>
<p><span>-20026376.39 -20048966.10</span><br /><span>20026376.39 20048966.10</span></p>

<p>Of course one can always transform the EPSG:3857 meter based coordinates back to degrees.</p>
