    <font face="Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif">I found that hiding some
      directories from the browser led to a dramatic speed up in both
      loading time and browsing (opening subdirectories) time. In the
      browser panel I did a right click on the C:\ directory and chose
      "Hide from browser". Same on certain network drives that had
      nothing to do with GIS. This small change greatly improved
      performance.</font><br>

            some time working on the issue to try find that answer.</div>

            way to reproduce the problem on a developer's windows
            machine.</div>

            data and project.</div>
