<p>Yes, copyright has to be taken into account for any data sources
you use in your QGIS project.</p>
<p>Esp. base maps. Note, f.e. that you cannot use Google Maps as a
background layer for your new map. The terms of Google Maps
disallow to create any new maps based on their data, if it isn't
using the Google Maps API and keys.</p>
<p>You can use OpenStreetMap as a base map, but they also have a
copyright: you have to mention that you use their data, if you
want to use it.<br>
</p>
<p>And you are not allowed to derive any data from Google Maps base
data.</p>
<p>Text and images, as you say, also have copyright.</p>

are creating new maps in QGIS, you are the copyright owner
of your map.<br>

<p>However, as Paolo pointed out, if you load data from
various sources, you'd have to first check the copyright
conditions of the data you use to create your maps.</p>
