Woot!

I guess that's the one area I am fuzzy on is How QGIS interacts
with GPS's. It seems like it's looking for either a com or USB
port. Which with lets say you have a Bluetooth I'm not sure what
you would do (I have yet to do the Bluetooth -> laptop ->
QGIS Dance because I don't hate my life enough currently). I've
connected external GPS (USBs) alot using GPSgate and supposedly
Windows 10 will let you do the same thing if you configure the
settings.....I guess that depends on How the GPS is hooked into
the Laptop.

Anyway - **Official disclaimer** Don't drive down the road
looking at your laptop and wreck.

Two things to check:

1. Right Click in your QGIS toolbar area and activate
your GPS information panel. See if you're connecting to
the GPS. Autodetect should tell you something.

2. I've used the GPS Gate Splitter Software [1] on
Windows 7/10 to connect QGIS to an External GPS. Haven't
had the joy to do Bluetooth/internal GPS's but I'd expect
Gate Splitter to at least get you connected on an
internal....... Although I've heard Windows 10 has
something similiar "in the guts" to make that work (no
hardware to test that on). Once you install Gate Splitter
QGIS should autodetect the GPS.

Good Luck - and I think this will work but as I type this
I'm starting to think this might be slightly out of date
thinking.
If it’s the later, explain what you are
doing and what versions of QGIS using. If
you only get a position with the wifi,
maybe you don’t have an actual GPS chip.
Look at the computer specs. Some
tablettes (iPods also) and rare phone only
use wifi for positioning and do not use an
actual GPS chip. Make sure you are not in
airplane mode with antenna’s turned off.
