I posted the following bug report but was immediately closed<br>
as conda installations are not supported by QGIS. There is<br>
no issue with direct installations of QGIS but I've been<br>
consistently had this problem right up to the current<br>
3.14,15. The link below has a screenshot, whereby the "hand"<br>
icon is never displayed, only ever crosshairs. The zoom<br>
magnifying glass works find but clicking on the hand icon<br>
does not turn the cursor into a hand and map tips are never<br>
displayed even after enabling them<br>

Large data sets are usually not a problem in QGIS. For rasters, it is<br>
important to create pyramids (inside or next to) the original rasters.<br>
Once you do that, your huge rasters should load and display really fast.<br>
For image data (aerial images, orthoimages) I recommend JPEG compression<br>
for the images data and pyramids, for raster data with few colors better<br>
deflate, LERC DEFLATE or some other lossless compression. <br>
<br>
One issue you might run into is performance of attribute table if you<br>
have many thousands of records - but this shouldn't affect rendering<br>
speed. Make sure you create spatial indexes for your vector data - or<br>
otherwise, you will have performance issues. <br>
