Well, there are several reasons why I would recommend not to fiddle
with python support now:
- further dependencies to compile: Python, SIP, PyQt
- further compilation issues with qgis_gui, PyQGIS
- the plugins are not suited for small screen

I think it is more interesting to have simple and nice browser of map
layers (supporting only basic operations) than full qgis application
that would be unusable on the small screen anyway. Everything is just
a matter of priorities: it would be nice to have python plugins in
future, but first we need a decent mobile application.
