[Tilecache] WMS's with dimensions

We are making heavy use of WMS with multiple extra dimensions and would
like to investigate using TileCache as a proxy. Our WMS services have
at least a TIME dimension, often an ELEVATION dimension and in one case
a total of 5 dimensions with non-standard WMS parameter names.

>From my brief experiments it looks like Tilecache completely ignores any
dimension parameters sent to it before forwarding on the request to the
proxied WMS, as I would have expected (please correct me if I'm wrong).
However, it would seem relatively straight forward to extend Tilecache
to handle dimensions defined in tilecache.cfg and cache each combination
of dimensions separately.

Has anyone looked into this problem? I may be able to commit some time
within my current work to contributing a solution if there is interest
in adding this feature to Tilecache.

Cheers,
Stephen.
