I have metaTile="yes" which I guess amounts to metatile=true or on.  Why
does it have something to do ?

In the meantime, I specified a MaxRequestsPerChild value (tried 100, now
1000) because I came across a couple of posts that mentioned a potential
issue with that.  So far, no pink tiles.
