[OSGeo-UK] FOSS4G UK 2018?

Hi Stephen (and also Jo)

Can you give us some idea of the work involved (nature and amount)? I think that would probably help one or more of us muster the courage to step up.

Thanks

Tom

Anyone willing to put their hand up to chair a FOSS4G UK in 2018?

IMHO, nothing will happen unless at least one “someone” (and ideally two “someones”) takes the lead.

It’s in your hands, we have a sponsor, we have a venue, we have volunteers to help, we need a chair (or 2)

So the list of volunteers so far is:

  *   Nick Bearman
  *   Sam Franklin
  *   Simon Miles
  *   Steve Richardson
  *   Matt Travis
  *   Tom Chadwin
  *   AJ Swanpoel
  * James Milner (I believe he is still up for some involvement)

Nearly there, I suggest you need 1 or 2 more and most importantly you need a conference chair and vice chair (trust me you do).

I'm also happy to be involved (in some form).

At the risk of trying to out-do Steve, I live in Cornwall!

I also may not be around for (much) of March 2018, but happy to help with prep and promo.

Thanks everyone for volunteering so far. I'm looking forward to it already!

Just for everyone's info, GISRUK 2018 is in Leicester this year (academic GIS conference, usually a good collection of (mainly) open soruce GIS bits, leicester.gisruk.org<http://leicester.gisruk.org/>, 17-20 April 2018 (TBC)), which may well have some overlap (in terms of attendees). I am also happy to provide a link with GISRUK (if needed) as I am involved there as well.

Best wishes,
Nick.

Hey Steven/list. Sure I'll help with this one.
Only slight caveat. I'm out of the UK on a super-intense summer space program until the end of August, so will not be able to do much at all until back. Doubt that's an issue though.
Cheers
Sam

I’d be happy to help out if I can, though I claim no great experience of arranging such an event. Happy to be part of a team working on this.

Thanks

Hi UK listers

We have had an approach from Geovation<https://geovation.uk/> to sponsor and support us running a FOSS4GUK in their London base in March 2018.

To make this happen we would need some members of the community to step up and take on the leadership and planning of the event, some of the 2016 team (who were also the 2013 team) need more recovery time before we go again.

I reckon you need a team of 6-8 people to organise an event, some workshops and a code sprint (if you want one). Advice would be forthcoming from past organisers if requested but we aren’t doers for this one. One of the Geovation team has offered some admin and logistics support.

Anyone interested? It’s great fun and immensely rewarding organising a FOSS4G, go on - put your hand up

May the FOSS be with you
