if somebody wants to play with the green right side bar background here 
are the images to colorize:

http://www.osgeo.org/themes/spreadfirefox/images/sidebar_box_bg_tall.png
http://www.osgeo.org/themes/spreadfirefox/images/sidebar_box_bottom.png

there are more methods to do expandable boxes with rounded corners on 
web; actual  code is aimed to be simple.
as things are now, the right column should not change in width unless 
this images are changed too.
Same for the header and its height.
