Frank,
I agree that shell access should be tight.  In this case he won't  
need root access though, that's for sure.  Perhaps test server is the  
way to go, or even something like having webdav access just to a  
certain folder?

Lorenzo has been working with me while I make the changes on server,  
I basically want to get out of being the middle-man on this because  
it's been fairly inefficient, but a great learning exercise.

I just put it out there, since there are these aspects to site  
management: installing modules, modify theme elements, moving/copying  
files and documents, etc. that all need some sort of shell access as  
well.
