Hi There

QGIS is used to render spatial data from PostgreSQL/PostGIS (database) or
shapefiles (non-database)

1- These are two independent systems. QGIS is your desktop application used
to for spatial data manipulation and rendering from shapefiles or a
databases (postGIS)

2- PostGIS is a database component which requires a database called
PostgreSQL. You need to install this database, import spatial data into it.
This database requires username password

3- Use the postgreSQL/PostGIS username/password to connect QGIS to
postreSQL/postGIS.

If you are not familiar with postgreSQL or PostGIS I suggest you Google
those terms and do more research.

Good Luck
