Hi Gavin,

I'm a freelance GIS technician, just starting out and therefore not
capable of paying for proprietary software.

So, I use QGIS to prepare shapefiles at home that I then take to
client's premises where they use ArcGIS Desktop.

I also have a client who's tracking Rooikat on his farm with a GPS
collar and I set him up with QGIS to view the data - obviously because
of the cost. On the farm there is no Internet connection, so he can't,
for example, visualise it in Google Earth.

My only problem with QGIS is the print composer, which I think still
lags far behind that of ArcGIS.

I haven't used QGIS with data formats other than shapefiles and common
raster formats.

Not sure if this helps.

Regards
Hanlie
