Hi

You are most welcome to send requests for articles. I will scan and email them to you.

The journal has gone through a few name changes and amalgamations over the years

South African Survey Journal - (TITLE CHANGED)
New Title : South African Journal of Surveying and Mapping continued as South African Journal of Surveying & Geo-Information
The South African Survey Journal was started in 1923 with the intention of keeping the profession in touch with 'the progress of events' in South Africa and in the world - and with its birth came to an end the Journal of the Institute of Land Surveyors of the Transvaal (founded in 1905) and the Land Surveyors' Journal of the Institute of Government Land Surveyors of the Cape of Good Hope and Surveyors' Institute of Natal (founded in 1912).
The new Journal did not always flourish equally strongly. The founding editor was W. Whittingdale (he was also the longest serving editor), who saw it well on its way. It languished during World War II and for many years afterwards appeared only once a year. R C Fisher continued for more than a decade to nurture the Journal reinvigorated by H Biesheuvel's tenure as editor.
In the last few years it was beset by difficulties : P W Thomas's death in 1985 robbed the Journal of a tireless assistant editor; there were production problems, and everything came to a halt when Roger Fisher took up a new position in the United Kingdom in 1987.
Not for the first time was it not easy to find a new editor. The break in production provided the opportunity to reconsider the future of the Journal. There was no question that it should be continued. The question was, what changes were deemed necessary? The changes that will be most apparent are to a more economical format, and to a new name.
South African Journal of Surveying and Mapping / Suid Afrikaanse Tydskrif vir Landmeetkunde en Kartering is more than a mouthful, but it identifies more clearly the scope of the Journal and the widened horizons of PLATO in the wake of the Professional Land Surveyors' and Technical Surveyors' Act No. 40 of 1984.
The change takes us away from survey as process, and more towards surveying as a discipline - wat nog verder beklemtoon word in die oorgang van 'opmeting' to 'landmeetkunde'

Hi Grant

The Journal is not Defunct at all, it is now called South African Journal of Geomatics. The Library at NGI probably has the best set of physical copies.

The current journal is an online journal and is available at www.sajg.org.za
