[OSGeo Africa] Looking for crop production data for the Eastern Cape per municipality

    Hi Luxon ,

Forgive me for once again posting here on the open forum. My previous
mail seems to have offended some -- so in reply and to keep the debate
    open here goes......

You do not make clear to what extent your study and your request for --
crop-production data is tied in to water management ( Yes we know rain
and water is the farmers best friend without which nothing can grow ) But
I would think that agriculture in this part of South Africa would not
represent a good case model for this type of study / research -- but then
I am not an agricultualist. ( or a Hydrologist or a Meteorologist )

It would appear to me that you should really be talking to DWAF ( Water
Affairs ) as well as the Weather Bureau. I am reading between the lines
here but climate change is all the buzz word these days ( they dropped
    Global Warming -- I wonder why ? )

The Eastern Cape does go through cycles of drought -- but I would have
thought that in terms of Agriculture in these areas Water Management as
an input to "agriculture" would be overshadowed by so many other
pressing priorities -- as evidenced in the papers at UCT that I linked
to. I am also inclined to thnk -- as I mentioned in my earlier mail that
it will prove very difficult to obtain accurate figuires for these areas -
    - compartmentalised as you request.

But -- I have often been proven wrong.

Please do let us know how your study progresses. Once issues have been
quantified and qualified through rigorous research then answers may be
    within reach.
