Hi

The NGI has aerial imagery archive of SA dating back to 1926 of some parts, since 1940’s of most parts, and of the entire country since 1950’s. Most parts of the country has multiple coverages. Since 2008, the entire country was flown using a multispectral digital camera in a three year cycles. You can request a shape file or kml with all the historic jobs

Please contact sales at drdlr.gov.za<mailto:sales at drdlr.gov.za> or call 021 658 4402, the previous ruraldevelopment.gov.za is not valid any more

Hi Grant

CD:NGI does not only supply the “current” or “most recent” ortho-rectified imagery, though this is what most people request…
If you have sufficient storage capacity/external harddrives, you can request them to supply you with all their historical ortho-rectified imagery & they will supply it to you at no cost, so long as you supply your own harddrives & pay the couriering costs for your harddrive/s to and from CD:NGI.

Please BEWARE that CD:NGI stores a HUGE AMOUNT of data though, so you may wish to “narrow” your parameters & be quite specific as to areas or vintages of imagery desired.
Our oldest historical ortho-rectified imagery will be available only in Greyscale, with Newer digitally derived ortho-rectified imagery being available in RGB (and for a few specific areas, in CIR).
Nevertheless if you make a request, the Clientcare personnel should be able to estimate how much storage/harddrive space you would be required to send, to enable them to supply your requested data.

Hi All,

I would *love* to host older aerial imagery.
I have plenty of storage and have the technical chops to get it online ;-)
I am happy to send an external harddisk + pay return postage.

My current cd-ngi aerial imagery:

Kind regards,

Hi Riandi

CD-NGI will have going back a lot further than 2004. In addition, the metros will have, usually at higher resolution, also going back quite a reasonable period of time. The more recent epoch data will also have Lidar DTMs. You can also try Gauteng Province, who have collected satellite imagery from time to time.

Norman

Good day,

Does anyone know where I might be able to find some aerial imagery of the Gauteng area dating back to 2004?
