Dear Frank

In additional to the land cover data mentioned by Luncedo, NGI does have the following feature class and associated attributes in its topographic data:

PHYS_LANDFORM_ARTIFICIAL:

289 Cutting
291 Embankment
292 Excavation
293 Mine Dump
294 Mine Dump Top (Use :298 )
295 Open Cast Mine
297 Slimes Dam
298 Artificial terrain crest
299 Mine Head Gear
471 Digging

Not all of them have geonames, but many do. Have you contacted DME?

Morning Frank

There are mines and quarries for the country on the land cover dataset. Its database might not have names but surely you will get location and you can take it from there.

The contact person is Julile, email: Julile.Sihlangu at drdlr.gov.za

Regards
Luncedo

Hi list members,

Does anyone know of a publicly available dataset showing the names and locations of mines and quarries in Gauteng?

Regards, Frank.
