AfriGis hd a good dataset for the whole country. Try them but you might have to pay.
Also try the larger municipalities.

Correct, I am looking for the colloquial Suburbs rather than EA's or SG townships. The colloquial suburbs are generally those that are in common use.
I contacted the Post Office to see if they had a spatial dataset for their postal codes, but they have not responded.
It was wishful thinking as it is unlikely that there is a comprehensive up-to-date data set.

Primarily, the problem is that there is not one common definition of a suburb. So, you need to define what you mean by a suburb, and then look for that. A further complication is that widely-used suburb names are sometime colloquial rather than 'official'.
